Project Gatineau, Microsoft’s new, free web analytics service

30. October 2007
Today Microsoft opened its new free web analytics service to US based customers.

Features include:

  • Click and visitor tracking reports
  • Marketing campaign reporting and conversion tracking
  • Unique demographic and geographic information from your site visitors

Anyone can request an invite to the service - just finished requesting mine. They've also got a forum set up and it's already got 3 entire posts! Really though, it'll be nice to have an alternative to Google Analytics and I look forward to dropping it on a site or 2 and checking it out. IMO if they really want to compete with Google Analytics they are really gonna have to bring it. A good move on their part would be to build a very nice heat map feature into Gatineau, or maybe they could just acquire CrazyEgg - that'd definately pull down some customers and provide them with the huge data resource they need to improve their search engine - which is what it's really about.
