I'm definately not a green freak or anything by any means (man-made global warming is a hoax!), but I think we can all agree that the US is pretty much on the verge of an energy crisis. We need to start doing something now while we still have options. We tried Ethanol and that doesn't work (Still Ethanol plants continue to go up here in Nebraska). T. Boone Pickens has stated in his recent ad campaign that the US has gone from exporting 24% or our oil supply in 1970 to 70% now in 2008.
I think we seriously need to try something different. IMO the immediate solution is that we need to start drilling for oil on our own soil, primarily in Alaska but enviro-freaks and other liberals won't allow it.
So anyway, a couple of days ago I heard about the Pickens Plan on the radio. I just went to the site and watched T. Boone Pickens video. His plan basically says that we should replace the 22% of our energy needs that currently come from natural gas with wind energy. Then the 22% of natural gas that is replaced by wind energy can be freed up for use in cars, essentially decreasing our reliance on foreign oil by 38% saving billions annually.
The plan sounds great as long as we truely do have enough wind to replace 22% of our current energy use - which is huge. I tend to be pretty skeptical when it comes to huge numbers like that. I wonder how many wind generators it would take to do that? Also, how long before the libs would tell us we need to start being "blue" and not pollute the view of the sky with wind generators...lolz.
Regardless, props to Mr. Pickens for doing something. Check it out: Pickens Plan and let me know what you think!
